The CAADP Country team in Lesotho is to meet on 12th July 2018 under the chairpersonship of the Principle Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. Will involve government officials, NGOs, Academia, Private sector, International organizations, financial institutions and farmer organizations. CAADP is an Africa-owned and Africa-led agriculture development framework aimed to fulfil the African Union’s New Partnership for African Development (AU-NEPAD) agenda to eliminate hunger and poverty in Africa through a comprehensive investment in agriculture.
According to the Africa Agriculture Transformation Dashboard 2018, Lesotho still invest 3.6% of the agriculture budget into agriculture which is far from the 10% Malabo target. The dashboard reveal that irrigated area has gone down to minus 49%, agriculture research at 0.8% against 1% target, annual agriculture growth has gone down to minus 21.5% against 6% annual growth target, while stunting is still at 41% against the 10% target. The report adds that youth involvement in agriculture still down at 1% against the AU benchmark of 3%.
